Sunshine Day Nursery at O'Neill Drive
Sunshine Day Nursery at O'Neill Drive first opened its doors in 2001 with only a handful of children and has now developed into one of the most recognised nurseries in the area. Sunshine Day Nursery is a purpose-built nursery which provides full day care, and sessional day care for children aged 6 weeks to 14 years. We are in a good location just next to Peterlee town centre and we are very easy to find.
We are a 66-place nursery providing a wide range of services for children and their families including high quality care and education.
At Sunshine Day Nursery, you will always get a warm welcome from staff. If you would like to arrange a visit, we would be more than happy to show you around.
Our Rooms
At Sunshine Day Nursery we have four main rooms:
A purpose-built baby room which we call the Sunflower room, where our youngest children aged between 6 weeks to 18 months are cared for each day by friendly caring staff.
We have a lovely room for our 2-3 year olds, which we call our Sunbeam room, catering for young toddlers aged between 18 months and 36 months. Here, our friendly and enthusiastic staff plan daily activities to ensure active minds are challenged and kept busy.
We have a pre-school room - known as the Busy Bee’s room where children aged between 3 and 4 years can attend. Our pre-school Staff all have the appropriate training and qualifications to provide a high quality play based education following the Early Years Foundation Stage curriculum (EYFS).
We also have a room for our older children who attend our holiday club and our breakfast & after school club
Opening Times
Our main nursery at O’Neill Drive and our Dene House venue are open between the hours of 8.00- 5.30pm.
Our Seascape venue is now open term time only
Between the hours of 8.30am -4.00pm
Our Staff
All of our staff across all three venues are friendly and welcoming and are dedicated to providing high quality childcare and education. Our nursery practitioners are all qualified, and have a wealth of experience behind them, and we are proud of the fact that our staff are continually engaged in professional development, and receiving up to date training, in relation to the Early Years Foundation Stage (The EYFS) Safeguarding and first aid.
We have a low turnaround of staff, and all of our staff have been DBS checked, and we work within the legal requirements for ratios in the rooms.
Our Sister Nurseries
Sunshine at Seascape and Sunshine at Dene House are our sister nurseries and are also situated in Peterlee.

Outdoor Play
Our outdoor play policy allows children to access outdoor play often throughout the day.
Our staff provide stimulating play opportunities for children to help them develop the skills they need to be active, stay healthy, explore and enjoy nature and most of all have fun.
Our Management Team
We have a professional management team who support staff, and ensure the smooth running of the nurseries.
Katherine Hardman is the manager at O'Neill Drive. Kelly Walton runs our nursery at Seascape and Gaynor Stuart is responsible for the running of our nursery at Dene House. All of our management team are very approachable, always happy to chat and give advice.
Out of School Clubs
Our main nursery at O'Neill Drive has an afterschool club catering for children of school age.
Our after-school club is organised by qualified practitioners and play workers who plan daily activities and games.
Holiday Club
Our holiday club runs daily during the holiday period with the exception of bank holidays and Christmas, where we close for one week between Christmas and new year.
As a member of one of our out of school clubs your child will be cared for in a safe and stimulating environment, they will be given high quality care and attention as they have the chance to make friends and join other children and adults as they play and spend time together. Your child will have a key worker who will help them settle in. The emphasis will be on having fun, relaxing and playing together. Help with homework can also be given if required. Children will also have access to outdoor play.
Prices
We charge competitive rates for our full day care and half day care sessions. Please feel free to call the office if you have any queries about our prices. Don’t forget that funded places are now available for two, three and four year olds, making education more accessible, with no extra cost. Also, as a working parent you can claim childcare vouchers and tax credits to help lower the costs of your childcare.
